Back link refers to the incoming links to a website, be it from an article, blog, directory and etc. This is one of the most critical factors over the concept of SEO (search engine optimization) because of how it contributes to the page rank your website will receive .

It is used by search engines such as Google to determine a site content’s relevancy. The more links point to your site, the more relevant the site and hence, higher your ranking on search page will be .

While having a high page rank is vital to the popularity of your site, back links also contribute to driving quality (targeted) traffic to your site.

There are groups of websites where they hyperlink to each other in order to get lots of back links . Those groups are known as “link farms”, a form of spamming in order to get on the index of search engines . It could be done either manually or automatically . This method seems to be unscrupulous and unfair because it influences the search engine index.

Of course, your website won’t be banned by Google for using link farms. Search engines are able to identify and filter pages that are suspicious of link farming, and those pages will be removed from the search engine index to prevent them from entering the search results.

To do it the right way, make sure that the back links that you insert are placed on sites with quality content, and they are of same niche as yours, with similar content, targeting the same audience. Anchor relevant and important keywords to attract more quality traffic to your site.

Keep track of your backlinks to see how many have been indexed.

You can create more backlinks through Article Marketing by submitting quality articles to articles directories with a link to your blog or websites. Other methods include social bookmarking, publishing RSS, commenting on other blogs, participating in forum discussions, creating a post containing links on your blog and making sure they are related to your niche.

As content is the primary source to attract new visitors, it’s hard to create in a small amount of time. Most will use already written articles available online and using RSS feeds to “hide” the fact that they are duplicated content. But how could you make sure your content is really unique and to not take more than 10 minutes per articles or even less?

An article of approximately 250 words take less than 5 minutes to write, when you know what you’re talking about. In order to achieve this kind of work you must focus on only one topic. Don’t start writing about various subject related to the topic you’ll be writing your 250 words about otherwise you might just get lost or you’ll start writing useless content.

In a 250 words text, you can have from 50-100 words which will be a description taken from wikipedia.com or anywhere else on the internet were you can find a description for a specific term in your article. Then you have 200 words left to write. Well, if you can’t say more than 200 words on the topic you have chosen, well, there’s a problem. Make sure at the beginning that you choose broad enough topics so you can write maybe 5 or more articles on the same subject. I’ve been writing on content for a certain number of post and yet I find myself writing about it for various situation: how to write content, why we need content, how to find content, what is good content…

Say you dedicate an hour to write. If you do take 10 minutes per articles, you’ll have done 6 articles in one day, which is more than excellent since the recommandation is 1-2 per day. You then have the possibility to upload them all at the same time or to program them to appear at a certain interval. Using wordpress, you’d use the Post Timestamp which you would set to the time you’d like the article to start appearing. If I had written 6 articles, I might set the post timestamp of one to 4 days later.

This way, you make sure you have daily visitors coming because your new content is programmed to appear daily. This is a great way to spread the work you’ve done. If you can write 2 articles per day, try to give them a bit of interval so you get your visitors to come back later. I’d suggest at least a 4 hours break. If it’s late the night, program it for tomorrow.

Never underestimate the power of words. When writing an ads, each word should be thought/weighed, like a writer rewriting his book over and over until he feels satisfied with the results. Many words have a true power which many might not even be aware of. Google adword call them superlatives. They are words which emphasize the subject, such as BEST or #1. This gives them a higher value to the eyes of future customers.

That’s one of the bigger reason you should not underestimate words. There’s another interesting things about words: the use of the words you and because is powerful. Those two words in correlation will have a great impact on anyone. A test was done to verify the strenght of the word because.

The experiment took place at a busy photocopier in a library. The researcher went to the front of the line and said: “Excuse me. I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine?” The result – 60 percent of the people let her go ahead.

The researcher then said: “Excuse me. I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine because I’m in a rush?” With these five words added, 94 percent of the people let her go ahead.

You may think that the reason “…because I’m in a rush” is what made the difference. Well, not really.

The request was then changed to: “Excuse me. I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine because I have to make some copies?” In this case, 93 percent let her go ahead. The request with virtually no reason gets 93 percent. The one with no reason gets 60 percent. The only real difference between the two is the word “because.”

As you can see, the results are amazing and at the same time it makes you think about how you automatically react to certain things such as words which implies “valid” reasons. Using what I would call a “flaw”, you can promote your products. And even if someone don’t fall for it, he’ll just find it weird and that’s great because it will make them laugh.

This article is great because I wrote it. You see?

To make your site worthy of visiting it should do one or more(preferably) of the following:

- Provide unique content
Don’t copy other people stuff. No people that comes online want to see the same text over and over. If you’re writing something similar to another site, try to at least enhance it, give it more structure, better readability, expression. Write about what isn’t much talked about but is interesting to notice and worth explaining/giving details.

- Have good features while having an easy use
Google is the best example to prouve this point. It has awesome features (the search engine is quite complete) and yet, it’s super easy to use. Search results are quite relevant which is the good feature aspect, though many SEO’s believe it’s not that good now.

- Provide unique features
If you can provide features other don’t and they are a great improvement to the already existing ones, then chances are you’ll get some recognition from it and also some traffic.

- Only give out the best of the mass (filter)
If bigger website write a lot about what you’re also writing about, you might find that there’s a lot of useless points in different text. Your goal here is to take the best of the best so you can rewrite it. If you have quality content, people will take it instead of the different less good because we don’t want to lose our time on what isn’t worth anything. It’s human nature.

- Provide provocative content
Write about topic you know will move people. If you provoke emotions in people, chances are that they will get connected to your website even though they might hate it. But popularity isn’t only based of good comments, but also the bad.
“Say good about me, say bad about me, but talk about me”

- Content is nicely designed
Even though most will say a crappy design with good content is fine, I think your site should have at least a decent formatting, respect to the original colors and nothing to eye-catchy (animated gifs that hurt the eyes or flashy background). We want to feel relaxed when reading an article, not stressed up just by some letters on a background.

- Provide a point of view of things that other don’t
If you have seen an event that was reported but your opinion differed, post it. People need to have different points of view so they can interpret and decide whether or not the reported facts are good or not. Like in arguing, if you can justify the fact better than the previous report, chances are people will respect you more for it since you put thought into it.

Even though most of you know this, it needs to be said once again:

- Have a lot of content
Having a lot of content mean at least around 100 pages with at least 300 words.

- The content should be reviewed for grammar, spelling, etc.
No one likes to read a text which is filled with tons of errors. We’re not here to play “correct it”, but to read the content you can provide us for further use. Whenever you write an article, act like you wouldn’t be able to do any changes afterward so it’s ready for “impression”.

- Try to have a specific subject instead of touching to everything (if you have a lot to talk about, make different websites about each subjects, it’s better than one site about everything).
A website must have a main topic which will be followed on ALL pages. Don’t start writing about anything that doesn’t have a direct connection with your subject otherwise it will seem spammy, will make you look less like an expert in the field especially because you write about unrelated topics.

- Mouth to ear is still the best way to get yourself some traffic and popularity
If you can dig other people attention with your website, it won’t be long until it get spread through their friend network. The more open your website topic is (not related to any experience or knowledge in the field) the better are your chances to get popularity.

I’ll warn you: don’t expect instant results. Popularity is built and gained and building isn’t done instantly (not yet though). Following those guideline will at least keep you going in the right direction. Don’t be afraid to test things out and see what works, what doesn’t and only keep what does.
