How I’ve made money online (so far)

I’ve entered the real world of online money making on April 1st (talk about a date that isn’t that funny). It’s been approximately 4 months (it will be by August 1st) and I’ve worked a lot to learn about the secrets to make money online. I’ve seen, read and discussed about the various methods that exist and I’ve come with a lot of conclusion.

In four months, I’ve been able to start 2 new blogs, kept running 1 already existing. I’ve made over 200$ in 4 months, so approximately 50$ per month. Some will say it’s not much while others will rage because they don’t even make 5$ per month.

Here’s what I would call “my secret”, even though if it’s not a real secret but actually WHAT WORKS!

Simply put, here’s the 3 things that allowed me to get 200$:
1. Text-link-ads (advertisement)
2. Google Adsense (advertisement)
3. A webdirectory (through featured link selling)

Here’s how it works:
1. For Text-link-ads to work, you’ll need to have an already built and good website, which means at least PR4 and with possibly more than 250-500 unique visitor per day. This way you’ll make sure there will be people buying your advertisement space.

2. For Google Adsense, there’s not much you can do. Just make sure you advertisement is optimized (link color, background color, placement, size). The more unique visitors you’ll get, the bigger you’re going to get in income (if you keep a consistent CTR).

3. For a webdirectory, you can get free scripts at hotscript.com and edit it enough to make it personalized. You could also pay a webprogrammer to do that job. When that’s done, you submit your directory to as much others directory as you can and there will be natural linking later on. The higher you can get your PR (by submitting to webdirectory and websites), the higher your chances of getting a bigger return on featured links. I’ve sold ~15 links with a PR0 website for the cost of 2$/featured. My webdirectory is now PR3 and the prices are now 20$/featured.

The best way to make money all of these 3 “things” is to make your site popular. Popularity increases your daily unique visitor rate and makes your site more valuable to those who visit it.

If you want to make money, make sure your site is already qualified because unknown websites will have to work their way to the top until they get a consistent income. My 50$/month is fine for me but I’m sure I can increase it, so can you. It’s not about hardwork, but smartwork.

DigitalPoint Coop Advertising Network

I’ve been looking for many websites which offered advertising onto other sites for free and many if not all of them didn’t have enough members to really care about joining. As I was registered to DigitalPoint forums, I soon started to hear about this thing they called “the coop”. Wondering what it was, I decided to check it out by myself.

What I found was a really simple part of their website which offered the kind of advertising I was looking for. I was able to put my website onto others website in almost no time, not like on link-vault where it takes ages for link to get established.

Sure, many of the links aren’t really much targeted but the goal of this network is to give more backlinks to your website. The more “weight” you have, the more power you have online. But to gain weight, you must “already” have it:

From the DigitalPoint Coop Advertising Network
The weighting system is a formula based on a variety of things, including popularity of the site, how many pages you offer to the ad network for space, how many other ads you run on your pages, etc.

So in order to have a good control over the coop, you need to already have a good established website where you’ll put their ad script so you earn your weight. If you don’t have an already established website, the coop will help you to start promoting it. It will take some time though because you don’t have many pages indexed, but as times goes by, you’ll start gaining weight which you’ll be able to convert into more impressions on the network.

Never forget that even though the coop does help you get backlinking and allow search engines to find you, you should not stop finding new partners to exchange links and/or buy links. This service, in my opinion, is there to help you get spidered as fast as possible since your link will figure on various websites which use the Coop Advertising Network.

Don’t wait any longer, start gaining some weight today: DigitalPoint Coop Advertising Network

PS. I’m going to rank high for weight gain :)

Remove ads in the center of the page for maximum top ads relevancy

Following my post Ads at the top does it all!, here’s now my action in order to increase my revenue: I’ll remove the 2 ads I have in the middle of the page so there’s only a top ads on each page. Generally, if I follow Google’s advice (less ads = more relevant ads), I should be getting better ads which would generate better incomes.

With over 88 days of accumulated statistics using Adsense with almost the same template from beginning to end, I’ve got as a result an higher CTR and eCPM on the top ads banner. Those results lead me to think that ads which are in the center of the page SHOULD be poping out instead of being blended with the rest as users will not bother with following links. They are already reading an article, there’s no reason to follow the link until they have finished reading the article (or if the ads says to, but it’s forbidden in the Adwords TOS).

So give some separation to those banners (generally the 468×60 form) and maybe try various background and style. You might hit the jackpot soon or later.

That being said, I would also assume that the top ads does better because there’s nothing else around it (except the menu and the beginning of an article). I should add that when the page is fully loaded, the thing you see just above the center of the page is that top ads. Good placement isn’t it?

I’ll now be removing those ads like I mentionned and I’ll lead a 3 month test to verify if this modification will improve or not my incomes. If it doesn’t well, you know what’s next: some more testing.

You should test both these option:
1) Top ads only, try applying different color schemes, with border/without border, with image above, etc.
2) Top ads AND ads “blended” in the page, testing the “blended ad” with different color schemes, with border/without border, etc.

You can also do step one then step two. If after many trials you get a lower earning from having both ads showing compared to only showing the top ads, well, just use the top ads.
